Report content

How to report posts and users, send a copyright (DMCA) request, report child safety issues and make privacy requests on Ecency.

Ecency is a frontend for the Hive blockchain. This page explains how to flag something you think breaks the rules, how copyright and privacy requests work and what Ecency can and can’t do about content.

Posts, comments and accounts live on the Hive blockchain, not on Ecency’s servers. That means:

  • Ecency can hide a post or account on its own apps (the website and the mobile apps), stop promoting it and act on reports.
  • Ecency can’t delete anything from the blockchain. Content hidden on Ecency can still exist on chain and may still appear in other Hive apps.

When a post is taken down on Ecency after a valid copyright or fraud claim, it shows “This post is not available due to a copyright/fraudulent claim.” instead of the content.

For what counts as spam or abuse, see the FAQ entry “What is considered spam or abuse?” at ecency.com/faq. It lists plagiarism, repeated near-identical comments, unrelated tags, threats of violence, missing sources, untagged NSFW content and scams.

  1. Open the post and tap the options menu (the three dots).
  2. Tap report.
  3. Confirm when the app asks “Are you sure you want report?”.

The report goes to the Ecency team for review and you’ll see “Reported objectionable content”. The app also mutes the author for you, so you stop seeing their content. You can undo that by opening their profile and choosing Unmute.

  1. Open the user’s profile.
  2. Open the profile’s dropdown menu and choose REPORT USER.
  3. Confirm.

As with posts, the account is reported to the Ecency team and muted for you.

The website doesn’t have a report button on posts. On the web you can:

  • Mute the account so you don’t see it. See Mute users.
  • If you moderate a community, Mute the post inside that community. See Moderate a community.
  • Downvote content you believe is abusive. Downvotes reduce a post’s rewards on chain. See Curation and rewards.
  • Email the team, as described below.

When something breaks in the app, Ecency may show a Report an issue form. That form sends error details to the developers. It’s for app bugs, not for reporting posts or users.

Ecency responds to legitimate requests under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The full process is in section 15 of the Terms of Service. Send your request to the Copyright Agent at [email protected] and include:

  • Your physical or electronic signature (or that of the person authorized to act for the owner).
  • The copyrighted work, or a representative list of works.
  • The URL of the infringing material, or enough detail to find it.
  • Your name, address, telephone number and email.
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized by the owner, its agent or the law.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for them.

False claims can make you liable for damages, so you may want to talk to a lawyer first.

If your content was removed by mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same address. The Terms of Service list what it must contain. Ecency forwards it to the person who complained. It may restore your content after 10 business days unless they tell Ecency they’ve filed a court action. Ecency’s policy is to deny service to repeat infringers.

Child sexual abuse material, exploitation, grooming and any content that sexualizes minors are strictly prohibited. Report it with the in-app reporting tools, or email [email protected] with links, usernames and any details that help. See the Child Safety Standards.

To access, correct or delete personal information Ecency holds about you (for example, your email address), email [email protected]. Ecency may ask you to confirm your identity. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

A privacy request covers data Ecency stores. Anything you published to the Hive blockchain, like posts, comments and your public profile, is public and can’t be erased by Ecency.
