Translate posts into your language, change the Ecency interface language and help translate Ecency on Crowdin.

Hive is used by people all over the world, so posts come in many languages. Ecency can machine-translate posts for you, lets you use the app in your own language and welcomes help from volunteer translators.

Translate a post

Ecency uses machine translation. Translations are plain text: images and formatting stay as they are in the original.

On the web

There are a few ways to translate:

Language banner on the post page. When a post is in a different language from yours, Ecency shows a banner such as This post is in Spanish. Translate to English? Click Translate to English (or your language). After translating, you can Show original to switch back, Change language to pick another one, or dismiss the banner.
Translate chip in feeds. In feeds and in Waves, posts in another language show a small Translate chip. Click it to read a translation in your language.
Post menu. Open the ⋮ menu on any post or wave and choose Translate. Pick a Target language to translate into.
Selected text. Select some text in a post, then choose Translate in the popup that appears.

By default, Ecency translates into your interface language.

In the mobile app

Posts in another language show the same kind of prompt (This post is in Spanish. Translate to English?). Tap Translate to, then Show original to switch back or Change language to pick another target language.

Chat messages

In Chats, open a message’s actions and choose Translate to translate it.

Add a translation to your own post

If you want to reach readers in another language, the editor can add a translation of your post for you.

Web: in the post editor toolbar, click Translate post.
Mobile: use Translate post in the editor.

Choose the Source language (Ecency detects it for you) and the Target language, then Translate and Apply. The machine translation is added to the end of your post. You can also tick the option to add a language marker to the title. Always review and edit the translation before publishing.

Change the interface language

The Ecency interface is available in many languages, including English, Español, Français, Deutsch, हिन्दी, 日本語, Italiano, Bahasa Indonesia, Português, Nederlands, Srpski, Polski, Українська, Български, Русский, O’zbekcha, 简体字, ไทย and Türkçe.

Web: open the main menu and use the language switcher at the bottom, or go to Settings, Preferences, Language. On your first visit, Ecency picks a language based on your browser settings when it can.
Mobile: go to Settings and choose Language.

Changing the interface language doesn’t change the language of posts. Use translation for that.

Help translate Ecency

Ecency’s interface is translated by volunteers on Crowdin. You can suggest new translations, fix existing ones, or vote on suggestions from others:

Web app: crowdin.com/project/esteem-surfer (the “Ecency Vision” project)
Mobile app: crowdin.com/project/esteem-mobile (the “Ecency Mobile” project)
