New user onboarding checklist

Follow this checklist to set up your Hive identity, secure your keys and start participating on Ecency in your first week. The fastest way to feel at home is to say something small today, not to write a perfect post next week.

Day 0: Create and secure your account

• Create an account via Ecency signup or the account creation guide.
• Save your owner, active, posting and memo keys in at least two offline places.
• For safer logins, install a signing extension like Hive Keeper (by Ecency) or Hive Keychain, or use the Ecency mobile app. See login methods.
• Note your recovery account (often ecency if created through Ecency) and how to contact them.

Day 0: Post your first Wave

Your first action on Ecency should take less than a minute. Waves are short posts, like a quick status update: no title, no formatting pressure, just a sentence or two.

• Open Waves and post your first Wave: who you are, what you are into, or what brought you to Ecency.
• Vote on a few Waves you enjoy and reply to one. Conversations start faster in Waves than anywhere else.
• Follow a handful of people whose Waves you like, so your feed has life in it from day one.
• Use Ecency on any day to check in automatically and start your streak. Check-ins earn Ecency Points.

Day 1 to 2: Learn how Ecency works

• Read What is Ecency? and What is Hive?.
• Review keys and authorities so you know which key to use for each action.
• Set up your profile and avatar so people recognize you.
• Keep the Wave habit going: one Wave and a few votes a day builds your network quickly.

Day 2 to 3: Get ready to post

• Draft your introduction post with relevant tags like introduction.
• Check your Resource Credits (RC) on your profile card. If they are low, top up RC with Points, do a small power up or get a temporary Boost+.
• Learn posting etiquette and anti-abuse rules in the content guidelines.

Day 3 to 4: Engage and earn

• Publish your introduction post and reply to comments.
• Vote on posts to learn how voting power regenerates (see curation and rewards).
• Join 2 or 3 communities relevant to your interests (see Communities).
• Explore Ecency Points and how to spend them for visibility in Ecency Points and Boost and Promote.

Day 4 to 5: Wallet basics

• Learn the differences between HIVE, HBD and Hive Power in Hive tokens.
• Try a small power up or transfer to understand signing transactions.
• Review savings and conversion timelines in payouts and conversions.

Day 5 to 7: Mobile and cross-chain

• Install and sign in on the Ecency mobile app to enable push notifications and quick posting.
• If you hold other assets, check your cross-chain addresses in the Ecency Wallet and review the cross-chain wallets guide.

Ongoing habits

• Wave daily, post weekly: short Waves keep you visible and connected between longer posts.
• Keep your daily streak alive by using Ecency every day (check-ins are automatic). Streaks compound into Points and habits. See daily rewards.
• Recommend good posts from friends and your community to the curators (on the web). It’s free and helps them get noticed. See Recommend a post to the curators.
• Claim rewards weekly and consider powering up a portion for more RC and influence.
• Vote on witnesses and DHF proposals using the governance participation guide.
• Back up your keys any time you rotate them and bookmark the account recovery playbook.
• Stay connected via the Ecency Town Square chat for support and updates.
