Grow your audience

Tips to create more content, get more engagement and grow your account on Ecency with communities, Waves, contests, post sharing, Points, Promote and Boost+.

Growing on Hive takes time. Readers and curators notice people who post steadily, talk with others and show up in the right places. This guide collects what works on Ecency.

Your profile is the first thing a new reader checks. Add a profile image, a cover image, a short about text and your website. See Profile.

Your first post can be an introduction. Many people use the introduction tag, so other members can find and welcome you.

  • Be original. Your own photos, experience and opinion count for more than copied or recycled content.
  • Make it easy to read. Use a clear title, headings, short paragraphs and images. See Publish.
  • Use a few relevant tags. Pick tags that match your topic. Unrelated tags look like spam. See Content guidelines.
  • Try different formats. Add polls, videos or memes. Writing tools like AI assist and snippets and templates help you write faster.
  • Post steadily. A steady rhythm beats a burst of posts followed by silence. Scheduled posts let you publish at a set time.
  • Post short updates too. Waves are short posts for quick thoughts, questions and photos between your longer posts.

Communities bring together readers who care about the same topic, so a post there reaches people who are already interested.

  1. Open Discover or ecency.com/communities and search for your topic.
  2. Join the communities you like and read their rules before you post.
  3. Publish your post in the community that fits it best. See Communities.

Read and reply to posts in your communities, not only your own. People who give attention usually get attention back.

There is no fixed list. Rewards change every day. To compare, open a community feed and sort by Payouts, which shows the posts with the highest pending rewards. See Feed. Pick a community for its readers and topic first. A post that fits its community gets more votes than one posted only for the rewards.

Engagement is the fastest way to grow.

  • Reply to every comment on your posts. Curators look for authors who answer their readers.
  • Comment on other posts with something useful to say. Thoughtful comments get you noticed and raise your reputation.
  • Follow people with similar interests. Use Search to find posts on your topic, then follow the authors you enjoy. The Following feed shows their new posts.
  • Vote and reblog good posts. Votes earn you curation rewards and reblogs share a post with your followers.
  • Send a tip to say thanks for a post you liked. Tipping with Points is an easy way to support other creators and help them grow. See Tips.
  • Join community chats. Many communities have a chat channel where members talk every day. See Chats.

Communities and accounts on Hive often run contests and challenges, for example weekly photo, writing or topic contests. They are a good way to meet new readers and get votes.

  • Look for contest announcements in your communities, or search for contest or challenge with Search.
  • Read the rules: the tag to use, the community to post in, the deadline and how winners are picked.
  • Visit and comment on other entries too. That is often where you find new followers.
  • Post sharing channel: share a link to your post with a short description in the Post sharing chat channel, so more readers and communities see it.
  • Share outside Hive: copy the post’s ecency.com link and share it on your other social accounts. The link opens the app if it’s installed and the website if not. See Deep links.
  • Cross post to a community: open the post menu and choose Cross post to show a post you published in a community in another community you are subscribed to. Posts published only to your blog can’t be cross posted. Rewards are declined for cross posts. See Cross-post to another community.

Ecency Points pay for perks that help your posts reach more people.

  • Promote: a promoted post shows in the Promoted feed and across Ecency. A promoted wave shows in the Waves feed. You pick how long it runs.
  • Boost+: a temporary Hive Power delegation that gives you more Resource Credits and voting influence.
  • RC top-up: a short Resource Credits boost so you can keep posting and commenting.

Find them all on the Perks page: ecency.com/perks on the web, or Perks in the mobile app. The mobile app also has Account Boost, a temporary Hive Power delegation you buy as an in-app purchase instead of with Points. See Boost and Promote to compare them.

You earn Points for activity on Ecency and from daily rewards (check-in, quests and the daily spin). You can also buy Points by card, with HIVE or HBD, or in the mobile app.

On the web, open Insights on your profile to see Views, Unique views and Minutes (average visit length). The eye icon on a post shows its own stats. Look at which posts readers find and stay on, then do more of what works. See Insights.

The Ecency curation desk reads new posts from every Hive app. There is no form to submit your own post. Curators look for original work with visible effort, authors who answer replies, posts that fit their community and first posts from new accounts. See How authors get curated.

You can also help others: recommend posts you liked to the curators.

Ecency Pro adds tools for creators: email newsletters to your subscribers, your own hosted blog, Insights for any profile and larger AI allowances.

These shortcuts hurt more than they help. They can bring downvotes, a lower reputation or a mute from a community:

  • Copying content without credit
  • Using unrelated tags or posting the same content in many places
  • The same short comment on many posts
  • Asking for votes in comments

See Content guidelines.
