Tip authors on Ecency with Points, HIVE, HBD or Hive Engine tokens, on posts, comments and waves, on the web and in the mobile app.
A tip is a direct thank-you to an author, on top of votes. It goes straight to their wallet.
Send a tip
Section titled “Send a tip”- On the web: click Tip (the gift icon) on a post, comment or wave. The transfer form opens with 100 Points filled in and the memo
Tip for @author/permlink. Change the amount or the token if you like, then confirm. - In the mobile app: tap the gift icon (with the tip count) under a post or comment to open Send Tip (Support @author). Pick HIVE (default), HBD, POINTS or any Hive Engine token you hold, enter the amount and confirm (Send {amount} {currency} to @author?).
Tips are transfers, so they need your active key or a signer such as Keychain or HiveSigner. Hive transfers can’t be undone, so check the amount before you confirm.

Section titled “See tips”The number next to the gift icon is how many tips a post got. On the web, clicking it on a post that already has tips shows the totals per token and a Send a tip button. On waves you tipped, the gift icon’s tooltip says You tipped this. In the mobile app the list shows Tips Received.
Errors
Section titled “Errors”On the web, a tip uses the normal transfer form, so you see the usual transfer messages, such as Insufficient funds. See Common errors and fixes.
In the mobile app, for any token including POINTS:
- Failed to send tip: the transfer didn’t go through. Check your balance and try again.
- Please enter a valid amount: enter a number above zero, with no more decimals than the token allows.
- Insufficient balance: you don’t have enough of that token. Pick another token or a smaller amount.
